Good tip! I save old plastics and remake some lures too but I only save the "glow" and white colors. Molds are easy to make, just buy a box of plaster paris (about $2.) mix it up with water in a container big enough to hold as many lures as you want to make. Mix it kinda soupy and then lay your favorite lures in the mix. When it dries, pull out the lures and there will be cavities left in the mold shaped like your favorite lures. Save your old plastic lures to melt down and pour into the cavities. Unless you're real good at it, you'll probably have to trim the newly poured lures a bit. I use Pam cooking spray to lubricate the molds. Menhaden oil works but that's probably where the gray brown color is coming from. Couple things I've learned: Don't overheat the plastic or it will turn brown. Slow steady heat and stir while it's heating will do the job. Also if you get into pouring plastics, you might want to invest in a cheap microwave (or use your wife's ) . It will heat and melt the plastic far better, faster and without burning. I picked one up at Wal-Mart for under $50. As skeeter said, Superglue works great for repairing torn plastics but you can easily glue your fingers to the hook. I've done it. Get the gel type superglue. It's not as messy and easier to use imo. It's really a lot of fun making your own lures, you can add colors, scents and glitter to the plastic or give them a different colored top or tail, and you can modify the molds so that the lure have more swimming action.

Well, apparently we've all been doing it wrong. Nobody needs expensive lures that fray, wear out and need to be melted down and reformed. All one needs is a piece of yellow nylon rope, a jig head and some chartreuse garlic dip. All the trout and reds you need will come to your cooler. Now I've seen it all.

That jighead swims with the hook facing up. Not much chance of a fish getting the hook through the bottom lip. He rigged that photo!

I strongly believe the fish around here know I'm coming and swim away , that being said I'll give that a go.

Heck I've seen videos of guys catching grouper with bananas. When they're in a frenzy, they'll eat anything.

Love the jalapeno redfish.
Around here either you or your banana are going overboard. Maybe both if you have a crappy attitude. Still, I'd like to catch a grouper on anything.

Yeah, the whole point of the video was to disprove the banana myth..

A socialist is the front-runner in a US presidential candidate nominating campaign. These guys are catching snappers on bananas.
My world view is shattered.

Think it is more , when fishing boats were not able to fish for a living they were forced to run banana's(different time). So a diminutive or face loss if you had banana's on your fishing boat AKA you suck as a fisherman and had to carry freight/fruit to make a living.
