I thought I would share some information on the Haswing brand trolling motors for those of you who are in the market. I purchased a Haswing 80lb 24v Saltwater trolling motor from EBay 3 years ago. I initially installed it on my 22ft Cajun center console and I now have it setup on my 2400sv. I'm not going to go through all the specs on it but I’ll give you my honest opinion in the form of pros and cons after 3 years of saltwater use.
Pros:
-Remote Controlled
-Foot Pedal Setup Available (I don’t have one)
-Iphone App (Can be used for GPS and spot lock)
-Quick Disconnect Bracket (Only available in black, but I plan on making one from Starboard eventually or at least the puck that stays mounted to the boat)
-Remote Battery Life is Pretty Good
-Never seen it go below 50% battery life, indicator is on trolling motor
-Still works great after 3 years, hoping to get another solid season out of it
-2 year warranty I believe
Cons:
-Cant be used if the remote is dead or not working. The remote has died on me once but I installed a USB charging port to prevent that.
-Plastic feels cheap and does turn yellow fairly easily. I keep my boat stored inside so the yellow tint has come from being out fishing.
-Paint on the shaft has started to chip off
-If you don’t slide the black depth adjustment clamp all the way down or have some other form of securing it while running you may end up with the auto deploy function they don’t advertise and I’d highly suggest against that. I had it happen as I was coming off step so it was handy but luckily I wasn’t WOT.
-Beeps every time you turn it, however it does not beep when accelerating or decelerating
-The spot lock and gps is all dependent on having cell service, most places I fish I don’t have service. Thanks T-Mobile!
Overall I think it was a decent buy, maybe a little underpowered for a 24ft boat but that’s because I pulled it off my old boat. I would probably go with a Minn Kota or Motor Guide next time, but only because I plan on keeping this boat a long time. If you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive trolling motor I would say give it a look. You may get some s*** from your fishing buddies but the Haswing has preformed for me and shut them up by now.
