Weather is my excuse. We've had so much rain I was about to start building an ark. The river was 10 ft above flood stage until a couple days ago. BUT... nice weather the past few days so I'll be going to the gulf next Tuesday. icon_captain

Yeah, I'm on the same river system as Juan, so it's been really bad. I think tomorrow might be my day!

Well I had the boat all cleaned up and ready to go, but Freezer Jr. decided he would lie about doing his homework for the past week and Mrs. Freezer declared the trip was off. I got a good bit of work done to the boat though.

Went out St. Marks Saturday morning. Main reason was to break the motor in but did end up catching 2@ 20-24” Spanish , short trout and a sail cat. If it were up to me I would have kept the sail cat (better than trout). On the up side the boat now has 3.5 hours on it.

I'm still working up enough courage to try a snot cat. If they're half as good as trout, I've got to try one.

Yes I’m a member I just don’t post much there. rinse the “snot” of of the sailcat good and try to keep it off the fillet. Fillet the skin off and you’ll have a nice white meat fillet. Have fed it to a few people who didn’t know they were eating it. All loved it. Once I started targeting them I stopped catching them. Lol. I’m not a big fish eater , don’t like the fishy taste , but , sailcat has less of a fishy taste than trout. Flounder is our fish of choice. You really have to hunt for flounder at st marks and it’s an hour and half ride to put in at carrabelle where we can limit out. Give the snot cats a try , can’t hurt.

I was at St. Marks late spring last year trout fishing, and everyone was catching trout except one of my brothers. He caught mostly flounder with the same rig and gulp everyone else was using. We watched him a little more closely the next day and he started catching flounder again. It turns out while we were all working our butts off jigging and popping, he decided to just stick his in the rod holder, light up a stogie and open a beer. By the time he got it lit pretty well his rod would go off with another flounder and he'd repeat the process. I tried to stick mine in the rod holder and immediately caught 3 back to back hard head catfish...

I've pretty much quit flounder fishing and elected to stick with trout and redfish just because I have to slow down to fish for flounder. I still catch a few on accident now and then if I'm throwing a gulp. I launched in Panama City's east bay yesterday and my buddy and I boated 85 trout but only 4 keepers. If I had caught a snot cat, I was planning on keeping it and giving it a try. Are there any bones left in the fillet if you fillet them like you would a trout?

Big rib cage but no small bones . No different as far as filleting goes. Fishing for flounder is slow for sure but that’s how the wife and I like to fish. I’d rather work at making money and relax at fishing although I will pick up and move if nothing bites in 15 minutes. Aggravates the wife as she usually about to doze off when I say “time to move”.

Was going to go today but left the cover off the boat this week so it could air out . Realized this morning that I didn’t have enough yard trash bags for all the pollen that had accumulated in it so we didn’t go.

I went today. Launched at 0630 and gave up at noon. Caught 53 trout and 1 snot cat. All but the snot cat were small and no keepers. I usually go on week days because there aren't many people fishing but I guess because of the virus it was crowded out there today. The ramp parking lot was full and there were five boats in one of my fishing holes.. I hope this crap goes away soon.

I'm glad someone asked. I was wondering too.
So, Juan, did you keep, filet and eat your 'Snot Cat'?
I've heard they're good, but I've never wanted to get the 'snot' in my fish cooler.

I've never kept or tried one but have heard a lot of people say they are delicious so I'm still trying to work up enough nerve to try one if I can get past the snot.
