I hand just upgraded my steering on my 180DC to the Hydrodrive system and could not be more pleased. It fit with no modifications needed, the helm hole as the perfect size and the bolt holes for the new helm even matched. There is absolutely no torque steer or play in the wheel. The installation was easy with the only difficulty being getting the hoses through. I found this unit on Amazon and the reviews were good so I decided to give it a try. I have been very impressed with the build quality and it looks to be more robust than the more popular system I was considering and it costs less. Just letting everyone know that there are options out there. After testing a couple of trips out, it’s like I have a new boat that is really fun to drive.

Sweet! What's it called and what's the maximum horsepower rating?

Hydrodrive... they make different models as HP increases. I opted for the 120hp for my 90 but I could have probably used the one rated to 90hp as well. Just wanted a little “cushion” And this one had additional valving for anti feedback. I think they range from 75, 90, 120, 150 etc. you can find them on Amazon, just search for boat steering system.

Good info. How fortunate everything aligned for you. That doesn't happen often.
I like the big hatch in your splash well. Did it come that way or did you have to work in your bilge and there was no other way in?

Came that way but the battery is housed behind the steering wheel. Only the bilge pump is in there.

I went ahead and ordered the 175 model for my Yamaha 150. I'm excited, I've been wanting to do Seastar but that would cost me around $1200 for everything. Tired of all the slop in my steering.

Did it come that way or did you have to work in your bilge and there was no other way in? EZ to install but not sure I would in that location. The engine puts a lot of stress right there. Might consider getting a transom saver plate made up if considering or if spider cracks start showing up.

Got mine installed, got the 175 model for my 150. My install wasn't as smooth but I git it to work, it makes a huge difference in steering with the motor trimmed down.

Good to hear. After a summer of use, I’ve had no problems and the steering has gotten easier. Hope you have many years of enjoyment.
