I could use some suggestions. My little skiff will porpoise when trimmed up more than just a little bit even with the hydrofoil on the motor and as much weight moved forward as possible.. It will run close to 40 wide open as is but I should be able to trim it higher to get the best performance and run in shallower water and I can't without it porpoising so I'd like to install smart tabs or something else to stop the porpoising but the boat has a narrow beam and I don't think there is enough room on the transom for smart tabs. I don't need the speedometer pick up on the port side so I can remove that but I need to keep the transducer on the starboard side. Are there any other options? Do they make or could I fabricate a set of small stationary tabs and would that even work?

You could certainly fab up some permanent tabs, but I think that is the wrong way to go. Are you at or under the max recommended hp? I know you know where it should ride, but that doel fin looks pretty low (it might be the angle of the photo).

It's at the max recommended hp and I haven't been able to view the doel fin while running on plane but I thought it was level with the hull's flow line... but I took a long level out there earlier today and found that the cavitation plate was lower than the transom by a couple of inches. The motor was bottomed out and I thought if I raised it, it would only make the problem worse. I moved it up one hole and I'll try that to see if it makes a difference... if not, I guess I need a 4 blade prop or some home made trim tabs that don't trim.

a 4 blade would probably help, but I'd start looking at your motor height first. You may not be able to do more than 40 without porpoising, but you might get 2 more mpg going 40...

I'm not trying to gain any more speed. I want to be able to trim the motor so I can run shallower without causing porpoising. Ideally, I should be able to trim the motor up until it throws a rooster tail or starts sucking air before it starts to porpoise and it won't get anywhere near that as it is now. If I can get the lower unit up higher and keep the boat on plane, I think this hull will run in 6" of water.

Raising the motor one hole did the trick. Took it to the river and tried it out and now it's perfect. Fished for an hour since I was there anyway and caught 8 hybrids.

Nice. I'm going to hit West Point tomorrow. Don't forget to save one of those hybrids and try it on the halfshell. You'll be surprised.

Haven't tried one yet but I'm going to. I've released em all. Hopefully West Point isn't as muddy as the river is down here. Good luck. I caught 39 day before yesterday and some were over 6 lbs.
