Anyone have one or both? My birthday is coming up and I'm trying to figure out which would be best.

Arn't they one in the same thing? One registered to a vesel and other to a individual? I got a personal location eprib from ARC. Got it from a buddy who sold his boat. Had to send it back to the company for a new battery(seven year batteries I think) and to register it to me. Test it once in a while, and it lives in my orange ditch box along with one of there strobe/flares. I know a couple others that use similar on their boats. Don't know of anyone having to actually using one. The current Salt Water Sportsman has a article MOB wrist bands and kill switches.

Arn't they one in the same thing? One registered to a vesel and other to a individual? Yes and No. The way I understand it, an Eprib has more functionality than a PLB but since it's registered to the boat, you have to re-register it if you change boats where a PLB is registered to a person and follows you. Since I use two different boats, I'm thinking the PLB is probably the best option. Just not sure or which model. Good to know the batteries last 7 years. I get Saltwater Sportsman too and saw the article on the MOB devices... There's an article in there by Dave Lear on boating preparedness and safety that reminded me that I had been planning on getting either an eprib or plb and hadn't done it yet. I had an eprib on another boat years ago and they quit monitoring the frequency that it used so it became useless. Either way, it's something I hope I never have to use but since this social distancing has me fishing alone more these days, I think I need one.

Another thought: Isn't there an app or a website that can track the location of a smart phone? That might be all I need.

Thanks Phil. I decided on a RESCUEME PLB1 PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACON - USA PROGRAMMED $289. I changed my mind when I discovered the Rescueme PLB1 doesn't float. Bought the ACR 425 View ($349) The Rescueme had a 7 year battery life compared to 5 years on the ACR but 7 years isn't much good if it's sitting on the ocean bottom?

I just purchased the ACR 425 Rescue kit. Hopefully it was a waste of money...

I just purchased the ACR 425 Rescue kit. Hopefully it was a waste of money... I hope it was too. I keep mine close by in the boat but only wear it attached to my body when I'm fishing alone. Just knowing that it might save my life was worth the cost imo.
