I had a great vacation and the boat ran perfect. One issue I've had is that the kill switch cut off a few times when the keys on my keyring jangled at the wrong place and the wrong time. It happened 3 times over the week and I took the other keys off the keyring and it stopped, but it has been really finicky since I got it, and I noticed it is a universal type deal that has a dozen difft kill things on it, so if you don't remember the right one, it doesn't start. I'd like to get the factory Suzuki lanyard and I think it would fix the issue... BUT... All my old motors would die if the switch was interrupted, but would start back regardless if the kill switch was in place or not. My motor will not start back up if the kill switch is gone. This makes me concerned if I fall over with the lanyard that my family or crew cannot come back and get me. Is this the new normal, or is my motor operating improperly?

I think that's normal, have a spare lanyard in the boat where evrybody knows where to find it in such an emergency. From looking at the Suzuki key switches they look the same as the Yamaha ones.

I never thought about this and mine won't start without the kill switch attached. I would hope if you fell overboard with the lanyard attached to your wrist, the boat would stop immediately and close enough to swim back to but if you weren't able to swim or the boat drifts away I guess a spare lanyard could be a life saver. I've got a spare in the boat shed that I'll be putting in the boat today. I think I also have a brand new Yamaha kill switch (lanyard type) in the shed that's yours if it will fit and you can use it freezer.

Thanks Juan, I might take you up on that. My old Johnson would kill the engine when pulled, but it would restart without it. I was pretty surprised that the Suzuki did not do that. Seems like a serious safety oversight.

I sent an email to Shields marina where I bought my motor, and they sent me a genuine Suzuki kill switch lanyard at no cost 2 years after I bought it. I'll let you know how it works..

That's good to hear. Brett and his folks are good people. I called and asked him all sorts of stupid questions about my motor before I got smart and read the owner's manual and he was happy to answer all of them.

Well the lanyard that Shields sent me didn't fit the switch they installed. I ordered a factory Suzuki switch and lanyard off of ebay and hope to install it soon. Hopefully it will operate as it should.
