Hopefully it’s a slight oversight on my part but here goes....had the boat put in today and the marina said they charged the batteries. They also said that they charged them the last 2 times out but they were dead. They couldn’t find the plug. The xi5 36 volt trolling motor indicator lights were at least coming on the previous times out. Today there were no lights. When we got back I had them bring a cord and plug in the 3 bank charger but they wouldn’t even light up. Checked the breaker and still nothing. Questions : If the batteries are completely dead will the charger not even come on? It was rough heading out , could that have killed the charger? Trying to avoid a trip to the dealer and 4-5 weeks down time. Thanks for any input.

I would look really hard for an electrical connection. Charger might be shot, but I'd check the battery connections first.

Are there any lights on the charger? On mine if there's a bad connection at a battery or if the battery is completely dead or shorted, a red light comes on and shows which bank has the problem. If you aren't seeing lights or some kind of warning indicator on the battery charger, and you have 120 volts getting to the charger, I'd suspect the charger is bad but they will take a beating and I doubt rough seas caused it to go bad.

Went down today with a new single battery charger. After getting 1 battery to charge to 20% and the meter read 12volts I plugged the 3 bank back in. The lights lite up on one meter so I proceeded to try the others. Next battery showed 0.0 volts and wouldn’t charge or do anything (new charger didn’t even read bad battery). Proceeded to the next battery. Let me back up and say that I took connections off the batteries while trying to charge. This battery read 6volts and charged to 99% still reading 6 volts. Hooked it all back up and plugged the 3 bank back in. Lights still on on one and lights trued to come on on the other then went out. 3rd light never reacted. Good news is I deployed the trolling motor and it lite up and worked. Marina carries the Interstate batteries and is going to replace them this week under warranty. Boat goes to dealer after 3 more hours and the list of little things is adding up , all little aggravating things.

I'm curious, what brand is the 3 bank?

Dual pro sportsman series 3. Did read where it said if batteries are completely dead that it won’t come on. It wasn’t even humming before I charged the 1 battery. Started humming and working on the one bank. Confusing that 2 of the 3 6 month old batteries would crap out. Sounds a lot like my arms and legs on my old ass.

Confusing that 2 of the 3 6 month old batteries would crap out. Yeah, that doesn't make sense. Something drained them. Was the trolling motor left on while it was in storage?

No , it automatically turns off when it’s in the cradle but , I’m pretty sure they didn’t charge them the 2 times before I took it out. 1st time it went dead and the next it never came on. They were plugging into the wrong outlet. The 3rd time he said he found the charging port and charged all day before we went out this weekend. The breaker was blown and it didn’t charge. I like just going down there and jumping in the boat and going then getting out and going home. The down side is not having it in the yard to make sure things get done. Not sure I’ll leave it there next season.

Did you test the output of the charger when plugged in with a multi tester? Harbor freight has a cheap tester for $6 that will do the job. Alternator/charger will give same results (engine on /plugged in). they also sell a load tester for $20 that will tell you the condition of your batteries.

The guy at marina supposedly did. They put new batteries in this morning. I’ll see what happens tomorrow. If these go bad then I’ll let the dealer take care of it.
