I love my 2003 190cc, i bought it 3 years ago with a 2003 Johnson 140 4 stroke, the moter recently blew up, I’m looking to repower with either a new Yamaha 150, Suzuki 150 or the Suzuki 140, the Johnson 140 would only top out at a max speed of 33mph by my gps, I want more speed to out run some of the unpredictable weather we have here. Also I want reliability, have any of you repowered with the 150’s or the 140? What are you guys getting for top end speed. Is 10hp worth the money? What are your thoughts?

Welcome to the forum Chris. A 150 has a bigger block, pistons, etc and the extra 10 hp over a 140 is well worth the investment imo but keep in mind, the 150 also weighs about 120 pounds more than the lighter 140 and the extra weight on a 190 might cause water to enter through the scuppers at times but it should also push that boat close to 45 mph or more.

You really think that the 150 Wouk gets weigh the boat down to the scuppers? The boat is rated at a 150 max hp, I some times fish in heavy chop and rough seas, I’d hate to start taking on excess water, I love this forum and happy to be in a group with other sea pro lovers.

It really depends on how weight is distributed in your boat. The added weight on the transom will make the stern sit a little lower and you might take on a little water through the scuppers while sitting (especially if the scuppers aren't in good shape) but if you have enough weight forward (batteries, gear, etc) the added 120 pounds might not make any or much difference at all. Easy enough to test before buying....just add an extra 120-150 pounds in the back of the boat the next time you take it out.

Yep, buy 2 60# bags of quickrete and put them on the transom (or on top of the engine at rest if you can) and see how she rides. I think the extra 10hp would be slightly better than a wash with the extra 120#. I am a little surprised you didn't get close to 40 mph top end on the 190cc with a 140 engine. Maybe it was propped more for holeshot than top speed?
