Hi guys,
Put the boat in this morning to take the granddaughters and wife
for a little boat ride for the first time ever there were no rods
and reels on board.
Engine started immediately, headed down the river, I was running around 4000 RPMs, when I got to the wide part of the river, I throtled up to about 4500-4800 RPMs, after a minute or so
an alarm went off and the engine started running rough and I pulled back on the throttle, checked the pee trail and it appeared to have plenty of flow, the alarm stoppped.
I slowly idled back up to 3500 RPMs and it ran fine, I began to push it up to 4000 and then to 4500 RPMs while glancing back at the pee trail, the alarm sounded again and I throttled back.
Waited a minute at idle, the alarm stopped, told the crew I would
feel a lot better if we headed back to the dock. Cruised back to the dock at about 4000 RPMs with no problem.
The pee trail seemed to have a strong stream, but from all
indications I was getting an overheat alarm.
I don't normaly run at or over 4500 RPMS, but have at times
just to try WOT.
Is it possible that because of weight distribution
of the extra people and gear (purses, drinks, sandwiches,
toys, ...etc) in the front causing the boat to plow and
putting extra load on the motor that caused the overheat
alarm.
Or should I just face reality and say well I guess I need a
new impeller.
Oh yeah, 170cc seapro with 1999 yamaha 90 2 stroke.
Any help, opinions, comments, and/or smart azz remarks are
welcome. ;D
