I tried out two new spinning reels this week.. one cost $239 and is made in Malaysia , where the other cost $39 and is made in China. Without posting a long line of test results I'll just say I'll save $200 on any spinners I buy in the future.

Yeah but did you catch anything? I’ve heard Malaysian wife’s cost less , just saying. I can't afford or understand the American one I have so I sure don't need a Malaysian! It's been raining for the past four days so my tests were done in the pond and I didn't catch anything on either reel. Bottom line... the cheap one casts the same distance as the Shimano, has more bearings, about the same gear ratio, is only slightly larger and heavier and has an anti reverse where the Shimano doesn't... not to mention the Shimano instructions say you need to send it back to the factory if it needs maintenance or lubrication. It's a nice reel but it's not made in Japan like it used to be (and most people still believe) and not worth the extra $200 price tag in my opinion. Malaysia / China = not much difference imo.

I was hoping you caught something seeing as I haven’t caught a dang thing in 6 months , not even COVID.

I'm still using my Sharky II you recommended Juan! I like that thing. And come up north. The walleye are biting.

If it weren't so far from here, I'd be up there in a heartbeat Warpig! Walleyes are still on my bucket list. I still have and use my Sharky II reels now and then but I bought a couple of Sougayilang spinners and I've been using them. They're made in China but considering how good they look and work I really don't care. The one I recently bought is also a Sougayilang with a higher gear ratio and for $39. it's a steal and works as good or better then my Shimano reels. I'm glad the Sharky is still working for ya but if you ever need another spinner and don't care that it's built in China, you should check out the Sougayilang reels: www.sougayilang01.com/

I found this thread a bit late but here's my 2 cents. There are two things I try not to do and they are buying cheap crap and over priced top of the line items. I guess you could call me a middle man. My preferred salt water spinning reel is the Shimano Saragossa. I figure at about $250 a reel/20 years of use $12.5o a year isn't a bad deal. I have two Shimano Bait Runners 5500 and a 6500 bought back in 1998 still going. I only use them these days for live lining bait but going strong. My Saragossa has been on my main surf rod now sense they were introduced and have only replaced a line roller so far. I'm sold on being a middle man!
