Hey all, I hope this post is okay - but I need some help. My first post here. I’ve got an opportunity to purchase a 2006 Sea Boss 19 Bay. I understand that the Sea Boss line was a sub-line of Sea Pro in the mid 2000s. The boat needs to be cleaned up and has plenty of battle scars but nothing seemed too huge. I know the guy selling and I think he is giving me a decent deal. One big issue is that many years ago a tree fell onto it and damaged the console and seat, so both were replaced. The windshield is not factory and doesn’t look clean, but I think that could be fixed. Additionally, both rails on the side have been cut because of one getting bent. The boat has a 2006 90 HP Johnson Saltwater Series Ocean Pro, early generation riptide with I-pilot, Lowrance HDS5, trailer and Bimini top. Asking price of $7000. What are your thoughts? If it has a trailer, that's a good price for today's market imo.

The pictures look good. If it runs well, then why not??

Looks great in pictures-do you know when they were taken? I've seen a lot of for sale postings with pics that were taken a long time ago but you don't know that until you show up to look at the boat. If it is indeed structurally sound and motor runs at all, sounds like a great deal in current market.

Yeah great deal in the current market and I'd say a fair deal before it went nuts.

Big concern with me is the motor. I asked some local dealers about it and all of them did not seem interested in working on old Johnson’s if they needed to. Does anyone have any insight on this motor?

I had a similar vintage Johnson. When it ran great it ran great, but sucked gas and oil like a pig. Mine had a carb for every cylinder, and if one runs dry, theres no oil getting to that cylinder. Not sure about that one, but mine had 6 carbs and it seemed one always needed something. at 7k, it is a good deal IMO. I'd run it as is and plan on repowering in 3-5 years if you like the boat. My answer is based on the average boater usage and obviously if you are just going out a few times a year, your results may vary....

I should add that the sea boss hull is identical to the sea pro and that is its strongest quality. If you are looking for fit and finish, it might disappoint, but if you have a good hull, you have a great boat!

If you are looking for fit and finish, it might disappoint, but if you have a good hull, you have a great boat! Yeah. I went and drove it. It rides nice and the motor runs well. I know for $7k it’s a good deal. However, I am not mechanical at all and if the motor goes down I’ll have to take it to a shop. I talked to every shop around me and they all said that parts for that particular motor are getting hard to find. I need to decide if the deal is worth it, or to spend substantially more for a newer boat and better confidence that I won’t have issues (still could though)

Still WILL would be more accurate. You could and will have issues with any boat. New or used. At $7K, if it runs and rides good, I'd buy it. At today's market for used boats you could sell it for more than his asking price.

I'd jump on it. I don't know many shops that turn down work. There are hundreds of thousands of these motors around. I had a 2000 150 and all the parts are available on ebay.

Buy it! Run it til it breaks and repower with a 115-150 Zuke 4 stroke and run it for another 10-20 years
