Hey guys! Hoping someone can help me out. I have to replace the winch on my trailer. I have 190DC 2000 with a 1997 130 Johnson. The motor weight is about 380lbs. Maximum Capacity for persons and gear is 1700lbs. Does anyone know the weight of of the haul? I think the current one broke because it was too small. Just want to shop for the correct size. Thanks

I don't I'm afraid but the 204DC is 1950 lbs so if you base it on that you can't go wrong.

I just replaced one of mine. You can't go wrong with a heavy duty 2,000 lb winch and strap assembly (under $40.)

It probably wouldn’t hurt to move up to something like a 2500# winch. I use a cable instead of a strap. I don’t trust the sewn closure for the bow eye hook.

Being a strap guy the last 10 years, I agree a cable is the way to go. I'm hoping my latest strap makes it to the end of the season when I'm swapping to a cable.

I've had both straps and cables. I like straps and have never had the stitching fail. It's been my experience that cables kink and frey where straps usually don't but if I had a real heavy boat or one that sat far enough back on the trailer so that the boat would bounce a lot, I'd consider a cable.

I decided to install a Fulton 2600 lbs winch. Fulton details how to calculate the capacity on there product. So I am confident with the selection.
