I'm new here, got a 2005 180cc and I need to remove the instrument panel in order to work on the wiring. My problem is my panel has the steering wheel helm (hydraulic) mounted through a whole in the plastic panel, and it looks like I'll need to take the steering wheel off and then unmount the helm assembly in order to pull the panel. I really don't want to disconnect the hydraulic lines from the helm unit but there may be no other option. Does anyone know how difficult it'd be to detach the console from the deck so I can tilt it and access the wiring? I've tried removing the two pedestal seats, then lying on the deck and putting my head inside the console but there was no room to put my arms in there and it was hell on my back. Any ideas on the best way to get to the wiring? Thanks

Even if you removed the console, I doubt there would be enough slack in the wiring to tilt the console forward enough to work on the wiring.. If you can't get to the wiring via the console doors, your best bet would be pulling the gauge panel or removing the storage box. A picture of the helm might help.

I have to remove my steering wheel and hub to get to my wiring. My steering is cable but there is a metal brace that attaches the hub to the console face. Once removed it just sits under the helm. Easy removal but a third hand would make re-installing much easier, but I have been doing it alone so far and no problems, just a bit of cussing.

This is same console that I have on my 180cc, the hydraulic helm pump will need to be unbolted and suspended while the lines are still attached. I could disconnect the hydraulic lines but I'd need to bleed them once I reattach and I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Is there an access behind the forward seat back cushion ?, if not I'd make one.

No, it has a cooler/baitwell in front of the console but no access panel. I am able to get a little more access to the switch wiring buy going through the hole that the compass is mounted in but it's very limited.
