I hope this is the correct forum. I am having issues with my Optimax. It wants to die off when running around 7-9 mph and has a continuing beep until I return it to neutral. This makes trolling not much fun. The manual indicates several possiblities. I had the water separator switched out and that seemed to help. I have not had issues when running at higher speeds. One possibilty suggested in the manual was to be sure the exhaust port was out of the water when running, ie tilt. I am also thinking maybe an oil sensor causes it to shut down to protect the engine. Anybody have this problem or have any other suggestions?

Did you look at the water flow, does it flow constantly. Usually when running at higher speeds water flows thorught the pump easier than at slowers speeds. If this is the case you probbably have to change the impeler.

It is obviously going into Command Mode on you. Your best bet is to take it in and have them run the codes for you. It can save you a lot of time and expense because they can pinpoint exactly what the issue is. Too many variables to just start replacing stuff in hopes of getting it right.

Thanks for the input. I am having the impeller changed tomorrow. There is good water flow when running. I am about 120 miles from the nearest Mercury dealer. I bought the boat a month ago. I am still in a learning curve about this boat. Rides nice, handles nice etc. I had some cosmetics done when I got it. I anticipated some expense as I have had three other boats. I do like this forum

I had the impeller changed. Apparently a previous owner had replaced the water pump and left off a rubber grommet. This also caused some damage to the impeller. It now has great water pressure and shoots a great stream. Thanks for all the suggestions as they were right on.
