Black Friday deals had me wondering if I wanted to add a 2nd Garmin Echomap 93sv at the helm. Sure would be nice to run my GPS on one and Sonar on the other.
I am rigging my boat to entertain family and friends. I want to be able and stay at the helm with my spot lock remote and put people on fish at bow. Most of the time we will be over schools of striper/hybrids and brush piles for crappie, maybe single out a paddlefish or two.

Well, I bought the second 93sv for my helm. I will post it after install and in action. You guys can check it out next spring when everyone starts thinking about boats again and back online.

Here is my set up. It is nice to run traditional sonar and clearvu or sidevu at the same time. If you look close you can see the fish related to the structure (timber) on bottom.

Forgot to add that I have both networked together with the RJ45 cable and also have a 73sv on bow. Its nice to have all units communicating.
First day out was Saturday. I have a lot of learning to do. Trying to spot lock and position boat over brushpiles for crappie proved to be a challenge. Wind direction, current etc. as well as trying read/interpret fish finder once the boat is not moving, really showed me how much schooling I need. The other guys with livescope were absolutely slaying the crappie. I just have not decided if I want to go video game fishing yet.

There have been so many times that I wanted a second screen so I could see two things full sized. That's a good move IMO.

I have had the most success with spot lock if I head into the wind when I set it. But I have a big T-top and wind really plays a big factor on my boat position.

I have also noticed that you need to make sure the boat is stationary when you set the spot lock. If you are still "coasting" when you set the spot lock, at least on mine, then the trolling motor will turn 180 degrees and go to full speed to get back to the original spot lock spot...but it will over shoot and then over correct the other way getting smaller and smaller until its on. Mine is the older model though so maybe the new one is better.
Also mine has trouble when it is dead calm and there is no wind or current.

I haven't noticed any problems in calm water but it does the same thing if I hit the spot lock while moving so I use the trolling motor to get directly over where I want to be before hitting the spot lock button.

I think one of my biggest areas to learn is how to read my bottom finders when the boat is stopped. Everything looks great and easy to read at 2-3mph, but when stopped, everything flattens out. Keep in mind, the fish I am after at this time of the year are holding tight on brushpiles the size of a couple washing machines.

Well, I took advantage of the Bass Pro sale and bought the Garmin Livescope System. Saved $200 off retail plus got a $100 gift card. Anyhow, stay tuned as I figure out I want to rig it.
I debated at first, but then decided. What I like best about owning a boat is making sure that other people (dad, kids, clients, etc.) catch fish. Well, if anyone has been on freshwater lakes recently, the livescope guys catch about 10-15x more fish in a day then people without. I have limited time to spend on water, and want to make sure that we are productive when we get a chance to go.

For me, catching is like the saying goes, 10% skill and 90% luck. Let us know if the new gear helps.

Does anyone know if the rails on 2006 1900SV are 7/8" or 1"?
