I need to install an electric trailer winch and would like to hear what people are using and if they are happy with their winch. The boat is a 22’ WA. The boat, engine, full gas and gear weigh about 4600 lbs. The trailer s a roll-on.
I was considering a a Fulton XLT 10, which is probably overkill, but I’ve read nothing but complaints about Fulton electric winches. The word “crap” gets used a lot. Same with Powerwinches. Right nowIm looking at a Dutton-Lainson's STRONGARM Model TW9000. It has a single line dead weight load capacity of 3,000 lbs and a 10,200 lb. rolling load capacity at an 11° incline. Which seems like it will handle loading the boat without an s due. It also uses a strap which I prefer over a cable. The only thing it is missing that I might like is a remote. Anyone have any comments on this winch? thanks

Can't help but please keep us posted on what you end up with. I'd be very interested in how it works out. Not sure I'd benefit from an electric winch since I can usually pull the boat all the way to the bow roller with the outboard, but I've considered an electric winch but have a lot of questions. How fast is the retrieve? Does a cable spool across the winch or does it need to be guided on so that it doesn't bunch up on one side or the other? Where does the power cord plug into? Does it keep pressure on the bow eye when towing? I think I'd want the remote too.

Juan, what I have been able to glean so far is:: Cable - winches with calls should have a guide mechanism for the cable. I have seen a good number of complaints from people having trouble with the cable binding. Looks like it may be related to not having enough tension on the cable when spooling it on. Some people replace the steel cable with a different type and that helps. I’m looking for one with a strap. Power - can be powered from a battery box attached to the trailer or can be powered from the vehicle battery, which is what I will do. I guess it depends on the size of the boat and the winch power needed to load it. Bow eye - winches aren’t meant to hold the boat during towing. You should have a secondary cable for that.
After, 7 fusion surgeries over the years my days of manual winching are over.

After a dozen years and my third strap, I converted to a cable on my SEA PRO. I had one cable on my freshwater ski boat for 20+ years and had no issues. Nylon straps tend to weaken in UV/sunlight and only last a few years if you aren't completely under cover. There is also rot involved. I am surprised fulton electric winches aren't quality, they have been in the business for decades. I bought my senior citizen brother an electric tongue jack two years ago and wired it to the 30A power source from the 7 pin connector on his truck. He loves it. .

I ended up purchasing a Strongarm Tw9000 winch. Haven’t installed it yet.
