The rotator cuff complaints when I tried to pull start my leaf blower yesterday has me thinking about a windlass for my 2003 22’ Seapro WA. I’ve just started researching them. I have about 15’ of chain about 300’ of rope (a lot more than I really need for my boating) and there is an anchor roller on the bow. Information I’m seeing online says that a vertical windlass is best for a chain and rope rode and that, when all the rode is in the locker it should sit a minimum of 16” from the bottom of the windlass. I dont believe I have that much room. Has anyone installed a windlass on this or a similar model? If so, what and where did you install, any problems, how do you like it etc? Thanks

I looked at one for my 220cc but I felt the anchor locker size would be a problem and require modification, for this reason I abandoned the idea. When my current windlass (Wife) starts complaining to much I'll revisit it. Don't mess with a rotator cuff problem, see if you can get some therapy now if it's not too bad, once it tears completely its surgery time and a year of rehab.

My 235WA has a vertical windlass. I think i have 250 feet of rope. Works fine, but sometimes the rope will get piled up and jam the windlass. Its not a big deal to press down the bundle and continue winding it back in. One thing I will say is I anchor my boat more frequently without worrying about hauling the anchor up myself. Especially when in a tidal area with a strong current. My windlass is one of the favorite options on my boat. Especially when fishing alone.
