I finally pulled the trigger and bought a new 20 hp for my son's boat after the old 15hp Evinrude power pack quit on us again. I've done the first part of the break in in a barrel and after another hour at no more than 3/4 throttle, we'll be able to open her up and get the height and trim set and see what she does. He's pretty stoked.

I'd estimate it gets about 18mpg at a cruise of 20mph. It does hit the rev limiter just before full throttle, so I might go up a pitch and keep the current prop as a spare. The electric start button is a big plus. I think I've pulled my last rope!

I'll throw in this, I bought a lifepo4 starting battery with over 400 cca. It showed up and weighed less than a pound. I was pretty concerned that it wouldn't work but it fired right up and if it holds up, I'll be sold.

I also bought a 30ah lifepo4 battery for the trolling motor. It weighed about 4 lbs. I should push the motor for an hour at high speed and 2 hours at half speed. Not an endorsement at this point but if it does what it says, it's pretty impressive for the weight.

Dealer recommended a 4 blade but the one he sent did not fit the splines on my motor. I picked up a hydrofoil that my brother had lying around and it really helped with the cavitation in the turns. Dropped down to 28 mph with my 150# son in the boat. Still hitting the limiter, but barely. Going up one on the pitch and calling it good!

Well that didn't last long. Somebody came in a brand new silverado z71 and cut the lock and took it away. They had a film on the license plate that kept the cameras from reading the plates.

They took the whole boat? That's disgusting. I'm so sorry to hear that. Gotta be heartbreaking for your son.

worst part was his birthday was two days ago, he got a new 11p prop and some navigation lights for a boat he no longer has... At least his mom got him some jeans and a wallet!

Yep. Took it all. Insurance won't cover. Keep your eyes open please. Can you elaborate? Why would they not cover a theft? That sounds quite wrong. I hope I'm not paying premiums to the same company. Teach your son about Amendment 2 to the Constitution.

I didn't have insurance on the boat. Since it wasn't stolen from my home, my homeowners only covers $1500, but my deductible is 2K so I'm out of luck. I didn't have insurance on the boat because it had a crappy 15hp Evinrude on it until this year, and I neglected to upgrade it when I got the new motor.
