We have a 2000 sea pro with a yamaha sx225txry outboard. This boat has set up for a couple of years and we are now trying to get it back on the water.
The problem seems to be that even though the engine will turn over it will not crank. A couple of times we have been able to get it to turn over by releasing the pressure in the fuel/water separator filter, then re-pumping the burl till it is firm but the motor will not stay cranked.
It seems to me that it may not be pumping fuel from the filter into the actual engine for ignition. The level of fuel in the filter stays the same while trying to start.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what we should look for or try to do to get this motor running again?
We have removed the old fuel and replaced it withe good fuel, added 5 quarts of oil to the oil tank, and cleaned the spark plugs. We have also removed the filter cup and dumped out the old fuel.
We now have fresh new fuel in the cup but it just seems like the engine is getting no gas.
I am thinking possibly a fuel pump issue but don't want to spend tons of money on parts that don't need to be replaced.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Since it has set up for a couple of years my bet is the carbs will need to be overhauled. If you don't either drain them before storage or run it about every 28 days it will need to be overhauled. Believe me I had to overhaul mine and it was only about forty days between runs. They gum up real easy and usually you find out when you get it in the water. <`)>((((< ED

ALOT of variables in this equation. Just remember the basics, if an engine will not run it is lacking either fuel, fire or both. Sounds like you have fire cause it will bust off from time to time. Ed may have you on the right path with the carbs. Are you running it on a portable tank or the main fuel tank? Try a small tank of KNOWN good fuel and work back or forward from there til you isolate the problem(s). Let us know what you find out.
