I have a '95 Sea Pro powered with a Volvo Penta IO 5L Ford. I changed the oil last week and after the first trip out I noticed an oil leak coming from the stern drain plug. There was no oil showing on the dipstick after four days. It looks to be leaking from the dipstick adapter. I'll try a new gasket between the adapter and the pan but if that doesn't work it may be the pan itself. Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? I sure hope it's the gasket.

Wow - never seen an I/O on a Sea Pro .. but I have owned a few I/Os (still have a boat with a 454 and Bravo-1).
If it was OK before the oild change and now leaks - it sound sliek your oil plugs is lose or cross-threaded (or the oil filter is leaking).
Good luck - hope your motor is OK.

The oil filter isn't leaking and the drain plug was never removed. The oil was changed by extracting it thru the dipstick tube using the adapter at the top of the dipstick.

Seventeen year old oil pan sitting in bilge water ?? Sounds like a rotted out oil pan to me. Especially if it is in salt water. I hade the same problem with a 5.7 L in my 25' Regal a couple years back. The dipstick tube should be high enough on the side of the pan that it couldn't drain your pan. Is there enough room in the bilge to feel around the bottom of your pan. I'll bet you can put your fingers right through it. Looks like you'll be pulling your engine............

The boat sits on a trailer and the bilge drain plug is always out while on the trailer. The boat never sits in the water except when fishing. The oil drain plug has a tee adapter which accepts the dipstick, so the oil can be pumped out thru the dip stick. Anyway, tomorrow I'll pull the dipstck and the tee and check the bottom of the pan with a mirror.

Worked on the engine today and found a small amt. of rust and a leak right around the bottom of the oil drain adapter. Looks like a new pan will have to be installed. Thanks for any suggestions offered.

I'm not an expert on i/os but I think the oil pan needs to be baffled for marine applications, so one for an automotive application may cause oil pressure fluctuations. I know this happened to my buddy with a similar propulsion package.

Found an oil pan in upstate NY on advice from Volvo. They had all the parts at a reasonable price. Local Volvo dealer installed parts and boat is now OK. Ready for Spring stripers. Thanks for all the help. Merry Christmas.
