In an earlier post I said that the Serial Number/ Model tag was missing. BoutTime said he talked to a Johnson Marine Tach and he suggested looking on a "freeze plug" for the serial number. My new mechanic found the freeze plug (not really a freeze plug, a blank) on the starboard side facing transom. It has a long number that he wrote down and will find out info on the motor. On some years, Johnson used "stickers". This is one of those years. I am a printer with almost 50 years experience. I have printed many of these for a small manufacturing company. We printed them on a very thin metal (then customer would add necessary information). They use permanent "adhesive" and placed them on their products. It is a permanent adhesive but not forever (check yours). I called the old owner and he said when he got the boat it was sitting for many years and was extremely dirty. He has a very powerful pressure washer and when blasting off the dirt he said he saw a small sticker on the engine go flying off. He didn't know what it was and it got lost. He found out later when he needed parts for the engine. He went to a Johnson Dealer and they told him about the Freeze Plug Numbers and he was able to verify that they were the Vin Number. He didn't follow up to find out Model Number. We are hoping to get it.

Printer on my 1990 115 Johnson it was on the Starboard side of the motor (Facing toward the bow). It was a round plug about the size of a quarter on top of the motor right outside the flywheel if I remember right.
The phone number that I have for Johnson is (847) 689-7090 option 3.
When I read the number off the mid and lower unit it did not match the power head. The motor was pieced together. The power head was a 1990 and the mid and lower unit was a 1997.

Thanks runninlate that phone number will save me a lot of time. You are right about location and size of plug. I didn't write down the numbers from plug. I'll have to wait till job is done. Also, I forgot, thanks BoutTime for the research you did finding out information for me. I guess I'm still in the Dog House. I got a -1 Karma and NO ONE will tell me how to use Smilies. The word H--l that I used is in the Bible 54 times (King James Version) Didn't think it was a curse word. Sorry.
