Just a heads up: Academy Sports has a solid brass one-way garboard plug on sale for $5.99!!! It's usually $9.99 and even that's a bargain since just the plug itself is about $5.00 around here... It replaces the original plug perfectly and unlike the original, this one has a check ball inside that lets water out and not back in....so if you happen to forget to put the plug in before launching, (not that I have done that) NO PROBLEM..you won't sink. My old one was in good condition but I like the price and the check valve... took all of 10 minutes to remove the old one and install the new one... better get one while they last. Cool. Thanks for the heads up. Too bad I'm in London right now. Maybe they will still have some next week.

Does it work well? Seems a little scary if dirt gets in it ... no problems with you so far?

Does it work well? Seems a little scary if dirt gets in it ... no problems with you so far? It works great sitting in the boat shed ... I haven't gotten it wet yet..waiting for cooler weather and the love bugs to go away.. I see your point though.. if you have loose trash in the bilge, it could get stuck in the valve and you might have to use your bilge pump.

If you're getting that much water in your bilge....You've got bigger problems than the chance of the drain plug stopping up with dirt.

My brother has one in his boat. The biggest problem is with leaves and such just like with the ball type scuppers. Takes longer to drain, but is a good idea and makes it much less embarrassing if you were to forget to put the plug in. Thank goodness I have never done that..

I have. I think you are being facetious but if not, you boat long enough I bet you will too!

I confess, but it has been over 20 years.. I took a first date out on the lake, and must have had my mind somewhere else. I didn't even notice until I got out of the no wake zone and it didn't want to plane. Thank God for bilge pumps!

I have forgotten to tie the anchor rode to the boat before throwing the anchor (twice) I have put fuel into a rod holder I have forgotten to put the tackle box in the boat but I have NEVER forgotten the plug (yet)

I stand by my earlier statement. Of course with your new drain, you would never know!

Whew - better keep those batteries charged and test the floats on your bilge pumps!

I've never forgotten to put my plug in either. I swear it was a scuba diver that came along and took it out. Both times. I swear!

Ya'll need to get ya one of these plugs.. It's a LOT easier to get out than the old one that required a wrench and a lot of effort.. Now with a 16 penny nail or small screwdriver slipped though the hole in the plug it comes out with a lot less effort.
