Start out with a nice piece of fresh cut pine wood. Nail mullet on board. Salt down heavily. Sear mullet until board catches on fire. Remove from pan. Scrape mullet off board into trash. Add bbqsauce to board and enjoy.

Pine board to boot! Man be hating on mullet! You sir are missing out on one of life's joys, fresh fried mullet and grits. They don't call it Biloxi bacon for no reason....

I have never met a mullet I didn't like, ground mullet or regular "popeye" mullet. They are all fine as snuff....
I will add, they have to be fresh. Don't keep more than you can eat that day unless you are going to smoke them or pack them in salt (old school salt fish) not good for your blood pressure!

I haven't read the article and don't have a clue what a ground mullet is but I'm very familiar with both silver and black mullet having caught thousands of pounds of them in gill nets back when that was legal and quite a few by casting a net. Like SimpleMan said, fried, smoked or thrown on the grill while fresh, they're good eatin' otherwise: MULLET ARE BAIT!! I know a guy who pickles them in jalapeno juice and they aren't half bad like that.

I fried them up fresh before and it reminded me as a kid eating mud pies. Lol

Where did they come from. I have been told that the mullet from La. Off the mud bottom tastes like mud. I've never eaten them from over there though. From Fl, Ala and Ms they are fine!

Off the beach in S.C. they school in September. Catch all you want in a cast net about 300 yards from the surf.
