Anyone encountered this problem b4? My '96 115 ocean runner developed a miss or a sputtering under load as getting on plane and then when up on plane and load decreases it goes away at planing speed. Just developed last time I had it out catching some cats on the south Edisto last weekend. Motor has never done that before. It also didn't do it every time but seems to shake a bit under idle sometimes? I have a manual and will check electrical components soon but just wondered if anyone else has seen this before I start checks. Since I have owned boat I notice the voltage varies at idle , sometimes at 12.5 volts then will go up to 14 when it wants to. I'm thinking rectifier regualtor but it has never missed before. Anyone?

Nuttin huh? I changed spark plugs and wires. I found evidence of arcing inside of one of the plug wires. Hitting the charleston harbor saturday. Well see. Got the stuff from amazon and the new wires are sweet looking. Thicker than omc.

Noticed I forgot to put top screws back in. OCD is better now!

Yeah, I think all of our Johnsons sputter from time to time. Particularly as they age. But it sounds like you found the problem. Arcing would definitely be much more noticeable under load.

Thanks, I hope that was it . One of the plug sockets had turned the dielectric grease black inside the boot and on the tip of the plug. Well find out tomorow.

Yeah, you have to get the Johnson jabs in while they are still around!

I agree with the while their still around, getting to the point where seeing a omc in salt water is like seeing an old Norton or triumph on the road. I have allways owned omc's and had really good luck with them. Yamaha is the only motor you see and since they merged with mercury it is the norm. The yammies are nice though. It's like "WATERWORLD" with Kevin Costner now. Smokers verses 4 strokes. 2gunsfiring_v1

That was the problem! No missing today on the Harbor. Allot of rain and only one fish however. Caught a tiny four inch long croaker on a table size shrimp and he managed to hook himself on a circle hook three times the size of his mouth. Left him on and just casted back out for redfish. No luck though.
