Considering buying a Nissan 9.8 HP four stroke for a Brig inflatable I just bought. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with these motors. Apparently, they are made by Tohatsu who also makes the small Mercury engines. I had an outboard mechanic recommend these due to cost and the fact that Tohatsu is making just about all of the power heads for the 15 HP and below engines now days. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback.

I used to own a 140 Tohatsu. One of the best running outboards I have ever owned. Best power to weight too. I would recommend them to anyone. Dealer support is the only weak link IMHO.

Thanks Simple Man.
In fact the dealer network is why the guy recommended spending the extra couple of bucks on the Nissan over the Tohatsu. He said they are virtually identical, but it's easier to find someone to do the warranty work on the Nissan version if something goes wrong.
