So I went out to take a couple photos to contribute to other posts. As I began to take the cover off Nauti Girl I noticed the damages depicted in the attached photo. This is the point where the port and starboard I-beams of the trailer come together at the tongue. I thought someone took a grinder to it, but then it occurred to me that perhaps it was an animal gnawing on my trailer just for sport. Any ideas? Any clue as to how to stop this behavior. I can only imagine the damage a possessed demon like this could do to the boat itself if he got hungry. Help, Crabs

That's weird! My first guess was the marks were caused by the trolling motor being started while on the trailer. looks to be man-made since it's only on the one cross member and appears to be a uniform pattern. I guess it could be a "trailer eating" critter but eating metal?? I can testify that goats can do damage to a trailer...but I don't have a clue what kind of critter could do that.. I had some goats once (key word being "had") that ate half the wiring from my boat trailer but they didn't touch the metal. I don't know what's gnawing at your trailer, but whatever it is, I'd carry a shotgun with me the next time I uncovered the boat!

I don't know anyone who'd be so stoopid as to start the trolling motor while on the trailer (wink, wink).
I didn't mention that I found similar trailer disfigurements by the taillight and amidships by the wheel step.
Crazy huh?

I suggested trapping or blasting. My wife is so kind-hearted she wouldn't hear of it. She suggested I build a boat barn on the backside of the property to store it in. $30 trap vs. $.30 shells vs. $3,000 barn. How can a woman reach the $3,000 answer without any qualms?

Even if you build the barn, if is a wood rat that sucker will be inside. My suggestion is....kill it.

My guess is squirrel. Darn things have gnawed holes in my vinyl siding twice now. That was probably because they were trying to get in my attic but I have no idea why they would gnaw on a trailer. Other than they are possessed by the devil, of course. I hate squirrels!

They make those cameras you can link to your iPhone now. You can set it up and catch whatever it is in action from the comfort of your own home. www.google.com/shopping/product/8377337177684667090?q=iphone+wireless+camera&biw=1280&bih=889&sqi=2&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.82001339,d.eXY&tch=1&ech=1&psi=7p6qVOy9EYK1ggTI1oPYCg.1420467950289.3&prds=paur:ClkAsKraX9MwvRcnoIEU-yORkwbUnpi0UbqnBdlalZXJTXpGoZPMkfYyPuQ2YjTMw4wBH6c3BoqkULO-g-wn2tgkpZW55jbfn5OufIY43JuYNffW6EfOeDd2oBIZAFPVH701Dc155icPIBojFLOJ-nB-gBBMFQ&ei=D5-qVLaOEsGLgwSwm4TgCg&ved=0CKICEKkrMAc

Freezer,
That would stop it! Unfortunately, it would also probably kill my dog. I bought a bottle of 'Critter Ridder' that claims to repel any number of creatures. It's been a couple of nights and I've seen no new damage.
Yolo, I love those cameras! I might have to get one of those. I have a critter cam, but it stopped working. These are probably better. I will look into it. However, as curious as I am to see who snacked on my trailer, I'm hoping that it does not return for a photo op. Maybe it would get just close enough to be repelled by the 'Critter Ridder' spray and still within camera range. That would be ideal.

not stomping on the thread crabs just wanted to say happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Better kill that varmint, I have acreage and a big yard in east Tennessee and the squirrels, skunks, and possums are always destroying shit, digging up stuff in places they don't need to be. I shoot or trap my fair share but they are relentless. If they get near my sea pro I wish them luck.

I was looking for your trolling motor thread and found this.... did you ever figure this out? I never did. It appears to have been an isolated attack. El Varminto never came back.
