My son lost my key for the boat.
Any tips for locating the key number so I can get it replaced?
Thank you, Greg

Good news is that if you can't find it, new ignition switches with keys aren't very expensive if you are handy.

What engine? I think Merc only has 4. Take it to the dealer and give each a try.

I agree with Southern Cross.... Heck, I would try all the keys for that engine that I could get my hands on. I had lost a key for my HD motorcycle and tried a buddy of mines key, and low and behold, it worked. We had a copy of his key made and I used that key until the day I sold that 1980 Shovel to a friend, with no problems..Worth a try.

10-4 on the beer, nothing like a cold beer while fishing. Down here in Florida they are really starting to tighten up on drinking while operating a boat. They want to make it where if you are found to be "impaired" on the water it would also go on your drivers license record. Seems they are taking a Que from the state of California which already has this law, I'm not so sure how I feel about this. Limit here in Florida is .08 that is equivalent to one or two beers. I agree that while operating a motor vehicle (car) no alcohol at all should be allowed, but hell if I go on a fishing trip I want to be able to drink my beer and catch my fish without being harassed, whats next, DUI check points on the water. I can understand if you are operating your boat in a reckless manner then by all means it's time for an arrest, but if I am coming in after a days fishing and have my vessel under control and operating in a safe manner, what the heck.We already are heavily regulated as it is, and now they want to be able to stop you at will and check if you have had a beer or two after a day of fishing...I don't know, I'm on the fence about this one. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's already that way in Alabama. They changed the law several years back when Alabama started requiring a license to operate a boat. Police told me that you can get a DUI for operating anything. He said that you can be issued a DUI for riding a horse intoxicated in Alabama! Doesn't matter if the horse is sober or not! I understand how you feel about fishing and I feel the same but you have to consider that the road is an extension of the water in most cases. Most folks will also be driving a tow vehicle with a trailer once they return to shore. Definitely best to not be impaired doing all that. Just treat it like you were going out on the town. Drink moderately and you won't have any issues. If your gonna get smashed, get a DD or better yet, stay at home!

I do remember the guy that fought the DUI on a horse that proved the horse knew his way home from the bar and he did not have to drive it. He won the case. I think it was out west

Call suzuki and give them your serial number. I had to do this. Boat only came with the spare and I misplaced it in the offseason. Only difference is i have a Verado. I called merc with the serial number and they gave me the number (they use 20 patterns). Then i buy everything from here www.veradoclubparts.com/category_s/54.htm (i know were talking for suzuki for you but posting for others who may be in need). The keys are cheap, 15 bucks with shipping. good luck
