I'm going to look at a 2006 Suzuki df225 as a repower option. I wondered if I decide to buy it, Do I need to drain the oil before I put it in the back of the truck for the drive home? Anything else? Also, I know I will need controls, but will my Sea Pro gauges/warning lights plug right up or will I have to buy those ugly black Suzuki gauges?

Don't know about the sea pro gauges but these don't look bad, or you might be able to display the gauges on your chart plotter.

check to see if that year had the steel plugs in the cast iron head, which is causing all sorts of issues in Suzuki engines around that time period. I know it was an issue in the 90/115/140 blocks. There is plenty on the internet regarding that issue.
I thought it was 2007 and after that they had fixed the problem.
Also, if you are going from a 150 to a 225, make sure you have the Sea Star steering and not the Bay Star (which maxes out at 150hp).

Ok, thanks for the tip on the sea star LA... currently running the freezer star steering.. so that was on the list. It seems the steel plug was an issue on the 90 to 140 hp engines, so I'm good there. Phil I do have NMEA 2000 on my fishfinder to display the gauges up there, but I'd hate to have all those holes in the console

Good point , you could one of those gauge sized stereos in one and a clock in the other. Or cover them with mirror and admire yourself while driving along, no bad idea you'd crash into something.

Well, it turned out to be a circus act with an engine that wouldn't start so I couldn't see it run.

You'd think the seller would have that motor turn key perfect...All I can say is buyer beware....

yeah, The mechanic said it was the starter, but I got enough untruths from the owner, that although it seemed like a deal for a working motor, it would not be a good deal as a boat anchor...
