Just ordered a 2018 228 bay. I currently have plans to install a MinnKota terranova trolling motor 24 volt/60" shaft along with a 4 bank charger for 2 tolling motor batteries/1 house battery/1 crank battery. But I am reconsidering upgrading the trolling motor to 36 volt with a 72" shaft. That would require charging 5 batteries. Do they make 5 bank chargers? I plan on using the spot lock feature inshore as well as offshore. Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

They do make 5 bank chargers. I have the Minn Kota Ulterra 24v 80 lb thrust, 60" shaft and it's got plenty of power to push a SV2100 (21' 8") so I would guess 80 lbs of thrust would work well on a 228. I charge mine with 2, two bank onboard chargers. You'll get an added 20 lbs of thrust with a 36v motor but you'll also lose a little space and get the added weight of another deep cycle battery and charger...
BTW: Welcome to the forum.

I think you will be pleased with the 24v 80# thrust. It pushes my 210cc around very well. The 60" shaft will cavitate on my boat in seas more than 2' but my bow mount is a good foot taller than yours. Personally, I don't think it's worth the extra battery.

Get the 36/72". Got one on my 2100c. If you are using spot lock in waves drop it all tbe way down. In skinny couple twists on the lock and set it shallow. I use a three bank and a two bank for the house batteries. I fish all day on it and will run it at high alot between spots. In the passes the extra 32lb of thrust will come in handy. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing I put the three and charger up to the bow from the cc. Balanced the boat. Specilaly when using the rear live well and fish box while having someone fishing off the back. Mine is rated 112 lb thrust. Heard there have been problems with the stow/ deploy models from a couple sources now.

Heard there have been problems with the stow/ deploy models from a couple sources now. Do you know where you heard that? I'd like to see what problems they've had. My Ulterra has worked flawlessly but I've only used it a few times before the big motor broke down. I'll be putting it back to use on Monday. It's by far the best investment I've made (at least until I have a problem with it) and the stow and deploy function make it faster and a lot easier especially if you've got a bad back. The spot lock on the new model is far more accurate and holds tighter (3 ft) than the first edition models and the "jog" function lets you fine tune where you want to hold the boat. I know a couple of guys that bought and still have the first edition models and haven't had any problems at all. I watched them closely and waited for over a year before buying mine to be sure they were dependable. The local Minn Kota shop told me they've only had one come in for repair and that was because the owner deployed it by accident when the boat was on plane. My only complaint about mine is I haven't found a way to run a transducer cable for a fish finder up the shaft like you can on a model without the stow and deploy.

Guide here purchased two so he has a working one. Swears by it, or he would be out of the biz. I had powder coat issues on the motor with my 6 month old riptide so took it in for warrenty, asked the mech about upgrading , cause I really want the contour following feature with the helix. Thought I would go in with booth feat and upgrade to Ulterra unit. He said to wait as Minn Kota were still working out issues with the deploy mechanism and getting a lot of them in for warrenty work. This was coming from the factory authorized repair shop. I am waiting. I googled got lots of hits www.google.com/search?q=minn+kota+ulterra+issues&oq=minn+kota+ulterra+issues&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0.189033.191488.0.191926.7.7.0.0.0.0.165.574.6j1.7.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..0.2.135.IDr5i53lKWQ Check this out for your transducer issue. guy has a transducer mounted on the motor housing. Probably can buy just the brackets for the 360 with out going for the 360 transducer and monitor expense.

Hadn't seen that video but have seen one very similar and didn't like the way the transducer was mounted or all the exposed transducer cable flopping around. I found the best way for me was to just remove the fishfinder from the bow and mount a swivel bracket to the one on the console so I can just turn that one around toward the bow and since that one is larger, it's easy to see from the bow. Based on the dates of those posts from people having issues, they all appear to have had the issues with the very first model Ulterra and not the newer improved model which I believe came out in Jan. 2017 and from the few posts I read, they were operator error and not from trolling motor faults. Some people need to read the owner's manual on new products before they post invalid negative comments. The local Minn Kota repair shop (also an authorized Minn Kota service center) swears by them and told me they had seen only one in for repair. (again caused by operator error) They carry a 2 year warranty and I think they offer an extension to that for extra $$. I waited too before buying one and I'm glad I did since I got the new model and not the first edition but I know people who have had the first model since it came out (I think 2014) and have had no problems at all. (that's what convinced me to buy one) You're missing out on a great trolling motor IMO if you're waiting but who knows, they may come out with a third edition that cooks breakfast while it's self deploying.

I just put a 24v 80# thrust Terrova on my SV1900. Foot of the motor will come out of the water in 2's mixed with 3 ft seas. That extra foot would be nice on rough days. But 80# is plenty of thrust.
My local Minn Kota repair facility once turned a 42" shaft into a 65" shaft on a trolling motor I had on a different boat. Guess they could do the same for this one. Think it was $200 to do it though.

I cut the one down on my bass boat from 54" to 42". Took about 20 minutes and a hacksaw. Not as easy to lengthen one but it can be done.

It was only a $250 trolling motor so I dont recall spending that much.
