I saw you got set up for fishing, but I didn't see the fish? or chips... Well as you all know I'm not that good at this fishing game although I'm trying, I took the missus out with me and we trolled around for a bit, about twenty minutes in I hear that beautiful sound of a reel spooling out behind me (she got excited enough to put her beer down), you won't believe it but I caught a Wahoo in 60 ft trolling at 5-6 mph. Got it to the boat, gaffed it and then dropped it off the gaff 021 , lost my lure too. It was fun though and she said she'd go again, so a win there. We then went too the Big Game Club and had a Mahi sammich with chips emthup

Phil, I am wanting to cross in my 21'. Not worried about the trip over but the trip coming home is the issue. Have you got stuck over there in the past? Any problem leaving the truck and trailer somewhere safe? Is your truck a 2500 or HD? I just have a 1500 and the trailer does not have brakes (FL law).
Going to the range this Thursday late afternoon to shoot a little and they are having a low country boil. Call me if interested.

FYI, Cut the darker red meat out and fry the lighter red meat and your "bluefin" isn't bad eating.

So far (three crossings) the trip home has been smooth as glass so that hasn't been a problem, I've always left the truck and trailer at Harbour Towne Marine where they have 24/7 seven security, not had a problem and the red truck passenger door doesn't lock. Truck this trip was a 1999 F350, trip before was a Chevy suburban 1500 which was no problem. I wouldn't worry about the brakes as your on a GA tag and if you have all the straps on correctly you're not likely to get stopped. I've got a convention to attend in Savannah this weekend so I'll be busy , we'll get together one of these days I promise. It's looking like we will go again next summer so if you want to go with us let me know.

When you catch one, cut his gills, hold him by the tail in the water and let him bleed out. Then filet like normal. Trim the outer darker chunks away and use them for crab trap or snapper bait. Fry the lighter colered pieces. It's not bad. Just make sure it's a Bonita On a second look at your picture, I mis ID'd your fish at first. I thought it was a bonita. You've got a little tunny and they are pretty bad. The spots on the belly give it away.

I bet I've caught a million of those things and called them bonita my entire life. 021 I'm still not going to eat one!

Tunny has squiggly lines/markings, Bonita has straighter lines...I have heard that Bonita is good eating, but I too have never eaten one...Was talking to some guy from Hawaii who says that they make like a fish dip out of them, I don't know about that..ha

Hey Phil, I was over at Harbour Town Marina last week, man that place was packed with trucks and trailers that people had left there while they made the crossing over to the islands..You are right about it being a safe place to leave your tow vehicle and trailer...Harbour Town is a little pricey, but they have the best ramps in the area, although a little steep, and do have roving guards as you mention. I also like the fact that Harbour Town is right around the corner from the inlet (Port Everglades) where I go out of to do most of my saltwater fishing.

It's worth the fee for the peace of mind knowing it'll be there when you get back, I think they're putting the price up (or have done) but it's still worth it.
