Wishing all those in the Carolina's or any state that could be affected by the hurricane, good luck, and be safe. Those in the coastal areas should really consider evacuating asap...

Catcher,
Norfolk is on the northern edge of the projected path, but it's on the bad side of the storm and it's on the water. If this thing ends up a little north of what they're saying right now (it's 70 hours out and they really don't know) you could be in a bad situation. I don't know if you have options, but I'd rather be well-inland on the good side of the storm.

According to the models that I follow, this storm is going to come ashore between the Outer Banks and Virginia Beach/Norfolk.They are predicting that it will hangout off the coast for a day as a cat 2-3 that can be devastating, before coming ashore early Friday morning. I would say that if you are inland enough that you would be better off to stay put. After this storm comes ashore they predict it will head NW quickly becoming a rain event.Be safe Catchersrock...Here is a link to the models that I follow. This site has always been accurate for me, and you are able to go 10 days out... www.ventusky.com/?p=13.0;-68.6;3&l=temperature

I just steamed about 40 hours from New Bedford, Ma all the way to Seaford,Va on my work boat. And let me tell you it was a rough ride even on a 100 foot scallop boat. I came home to be with my wife during the storm and to have my boat here at our dock. Rather than leaving it in another port without anyone on it to watch over it. The latest weather report shows it has shifted a little and the Norfolk area shouldn’t get it as bad as earlier reports. However I will still be at the boat during the storm. We always ride it out on the boat with the main engine running and ready in case ropes snap or dock starts to break up! Now they are just expecting a high tide and about 45 mph winds where I am. Good luck to all those in its path! Good luck and keep it tight!!!

I am in no way trying to diminish the severity of this storm, as we all know, storms can develop and they can change at the drop of a hat. The msm is depicting this storm as the worst (Cat 4) in over 60 years to make landfall in that area, thats all fine and dandy, but..I have been following this thing with interest, and according to some of the other models, this thing will not reach over cat 2-3 which is bad enough. As they say, better safe than sorry, but is it possible that the msm is exaggerating for the sake of sensationalism, and readership, that seems to be happening a lot these days..just saying....It wouldn't surprise me one bit if this hurricane turns out to be less than what they are predicting....Here is what I follow, it has always been pretty accurate. www.ventusky.com/?p=31.5;-61.2;3&l=wind-100m

Checked the Ventusky models this morning, and according to those models it appears that Florence will be coming ashore as a strong cat 1 or possibly a cat 2. A cat 1 or 2 can still be devastating due to flooding and storm surge.. Be safe all, prepare for the worst, pray for the best.

They had me fooled again, Better going down in size than up. The local news here is saying it won't be much more than a serious rain event. That may be exaggerating in the other direction.

It ain't over yet. Thank goodness it's lessening in intensity, but there's still going to be an awful lot of hurt. Oh, and the insurance companies that haven't paid a claim in 10 years are going to jack your rates up because they're going to have to pay off their bets. We all lose.

At least it doesn't look like it will stall. I was in Macon when Alberto stalled and it rained until as Forrest Gump said "and one day it stopped raining" That was a mess.
