Hi,
I'm close to trading in my Hurricane Sundeck SS 188 and upgrading to a Sea Pro 219 or 239.
I'm looking for some feedback from those who may have gone through a similar transition. I'm looking for a boat to fish from, but I also need to keep the family happy.
Outside of fishing with the family, we love to take rides and my kids love to tube. Am I going to be OK if I get a Sea Pro?
Can I get a tow bar installed (I'm worried about doing this after market) or can I tube from the two rear cleats? Are they strong enough?
My wife's not into fishing, but loves to ride through the bay. Will she be happy on this boat?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Lou

I'll say yes to everything apart from the tow bar, I'd give the factory a call about that and there are some good aftermarket one's available. towing a tube from the rear cleats is no problem at all. With all the plush cushions and such on the new boats I'm sure the wife will be happy and I can say you'll love the ride better than the Hurricane.

When you say 219 or 239, I assume you are looking at a new boat? Those new boats look to be very plush and are still fishing boats at heart.
I pull a 3 person tube with two teenagers from my rear tie down / lifting eyes all the time. These are not the rear cleats. These are eyes on the transom. I would not tow with the cleats on top of the sides of the boat.

If they can lift the boat with those lift rings you can pull a tube without any problems. I have a 206 with a 150 and pulled a raft with 2 adults in it without a problem. If you go with the Sea Pro get a ski harness (https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/airhead-tow-demon-ski-tow-harness) to balance out the pull.

Seriously there's no problem towing a tube from the stern cleats, hell I've pulled a 13 ft boat off the beach from the stern cleat.

When I hang an anchor I'll tie the anchor rode off to a stern cleat and then throttle down... I've had the stern close to going under while going in circles around the stuck anchor and I've towed in a couple of heavy boats tied off to the stern cleats. IMO the cleats are built for pulling strength (horizontal) where the lifting eyes are designed for lifting (vertical) strength. I would never put that kind of horizontal strain on the lifting eyes. That being said, I always used the lifting eyes for pulling skiers and tubes. They're plenty strong enough for that and it's safer since it keeps the pull rope outside the boat. I've never seen it happen, but have heard horror stories about passengers/kids getting caught between the pull rope and the gunnel when turning the boat and pulling from the cleats.

I use a harness clipped to the stern eyes and it works okay for tubing. The tow rope does drag through the wake sometimes. The Turbo Swing looks like a good alternative to a pylon. I don't know about all of the other benefits they claim on their website but I like that it's all outside of the boat. As with most boat related things, it is pricey. turboswing.com/

That's pretty cool. What I don't like about pylons is that they are usually in the way when you don't use them.
