I took a break from cutting and burning trees yesterday and decided to check out a few of the ramps I use most just in case I ever get caught up and have a chance to go fishing again. I checked three that were listed on the Florida Game and Fish website as "open for business". All three were trashed. It's been three weeks since the storm and the ride to the ramps looked like the zombie apocalypse had hit. Nothing they've shown on the news is anywhere near the extent of the damage done by hurricane Michael. I'm guessing there's one in every 100 trees still standing. I just thought my place was hit hard.. it's nothing compared to those south of here. I guess I'll be fishing over to the west for a quite a while.

Dam that's a mess, you'd have to keep a good look out for things in the water for a while.

That sucks..The last hurricane we had down here there were a few of those floating docks, you know, the type that are on concrete poles, that came off the poles and floated away. I sent an email to the FWC to report them, and as of a couple of months ago they still have not been repaired. Our last hurricane down here was over a year ago....Hope they get your docks repaired soon so you can continue your fishing, like it should be.

You'll have to keep a good look out for things in the water for a while. Phil's right. There's refrigerators, washers and dryers, basketball goals, logs, you name it in the water right now. Hopefully the Coast Guard will come through and do detailed soundings to mark the debris put the salvage crews on them. The good thing is that there will likely be limited fishing pressure this year and next year there will be more and bigger fish. It's not much consolation, but....

Yep. I'm sure there's all sorts of junk floating around for a while.. A friend found a boat ramp in good condition today. It's out in the middle of nowhere and in the National forest so maybe everyone within 50 miles hasn't found it yet and I can go fishing next week.

Glad you survived Michael Juan, sorry about all the trees you lost. Hope you are able to go fish soon and I was wondering if you or anyone else has any reports on the red tide around the Destin and Walton county east of Destin area. A friend and I are hoping to come down sometime late November early December to pound on the flounder. when I was there the very beginning of October right before the storm red tide was pretty bad and getting worse. Have not been seeing any reports but I think the local press kept it quiet for the Destin Rodeo. My friend was there post Michael and Destin harbor and the beaches were full of dead fish and no bait any where.

Thanks troutslayer. I have a tree service working on the trees that were too much for me now and they're putting a big dent in it so hopefully, I'll be back to about 80% next week and might have a chance to get a hook wet again. I use the FWC site to track the red tide. Looks like there's still fih kills being reported over that way. Hopefully the cooler weather will break it up. Here's the link: FWC Red Tide Chart

I bet you're glad your boat wasn't tied to it when the storm hit
