Hi - have a 2008 238CC and have started to note that at around 35mph at 5000 rpm the boat feels like it hits 'syrup' and the engine reves drops. Like it is being slowed down...cant see any snags or dings on hull or prob...any ideas?

It could be caused by a blockage in the fuel tank vent or fuel pickup tube in the tank try hooking up a portable tank and take it for a run if the problem goes away check for blockages.

i agree with shelby. you could put the engine in a horse troth. i have a hundred gal. myself. connect the spare tank and see if the problem persists when you accelerate in neutral. thats how i found the problem at home and not in the marina. a plastic 100 gal troth sells for about 70 bucks at your nearby tractor supply or at a local animal feed store for horses and cows. i had to change my fuel float when my engine began to act up. but later it started to give me problems after i hit 2500-3000 rpm coming up in speed. it finally gave me a code that the shifter is not working properly. i have it now at the shop. i'll let you know what the mechanic says. maybe it will help you.

Hi - took to Brains Outboard's in Barnstable - Authorised Merc Man. Found 4 Problems with it. Supercharger Blown spitting out oil, fuel float needed replacing and 2 faulty sensors. All fixed under Warranty. We will see how she runs. Frustrating as 120 hours and not one issue. I service every 50 hours as I run hard and fast...but should not have caused a blown supercharger apparently...
Thanks for advice guys...back on the water this weekend...

Had the same issues except for the supercharger at 25 hours. Mine also ended up with a bad MAP sensor which really made it run bad. I was on vacation in clearwater beach fla. Took it to west marine which is the only one that services, and is mercury authorized. They were incredible. They took great care of us and turned us around quick. I learned that this is not uncommon on the 225. Runs great now. You should have ended up with upgraded parts. Mercury was great as well. Really reminded me why I bought a verado.
Ps. Mine is a 2008 that I purchased in 2010 with 7 hours. It had been sitting so I wasn't surprised it had a problem like this

first make sure the hand pump is flowing the correct way , than make sure your fuel lines are not collapsing, externally or internally as ethanol causes them to breakdown from the inside.

What kind of fuel mileage are you getting with the 225 verado on your 238?

Hi Guys- I am selling my 22CC with the Yam F225 and upgrading to a 238CC with a 225 Verardo on it. I have a ton of experience with the Yamaha but not much by way of the Verardo. Can anyone provide any insight on what to look out for (ie: problems anyone has had in the past). Looks like the fuel issue should be clear once we get the motors warm and running but if there is anything to focus on let me know. Thanks!
