Wow, just stumbled on this Forum. Been lookin' for a site like this to keep us in the game w/ our boats. Have relied on bits and pieces and some real creativity to repair some small problems. So far so good w/ my boat thru the years, and only maintenance on the motor. But I feel at ease that there are a unch of us out there. Flats and Bay fishin' in central Florida in my Sea Pro. Only made one major change in boat over the years. Took out the flip/flop seat and installrd a custom leaning post, wow what a difference. Gonna have to send in a new picture w/ leaning post!!

chumleydoo - where abouts in Central FL... I'm out of Tampa Bay (Brandon). I just bought a 2004 Sea Pro 19'6"... I do a lot of Bay/Inshore Fishing with my boat... I love to go offshore fishing if the gas prices would ever permit!!!! I'm thinking about trying out the East Coast of FL... you only have to go a couple miles offshore to be in 100's of feet!!!
chumleydoo & Simple Man - Leaning Post... Is really that awesome... I was debating weather to get one and I choose not to... What's your guy's opinion's on putting one on my 19'6" Sea Pro???

When you guys reach my age and have had a couple of back surgeries you'll want to be able to sit down every now and then and I think you will regret installing a leaning post (I know I did)...keep taking out all the cooler seats and installing the leaning posts..... that makes the cooler seats easier to find (and cheaper too). and it's DODGE not Ford or Chevy ;D
chocolate and vanillia ;D

I'm 43. Maybe your just a candy azz! Seriously, I am blessed not to have alot of back problems. I know people who do and it is bad news for sure. Take care of your back, you've only got one! To me waves hurt less standing than sitting. Also you can sit on a lean post if it is built properly (which the factory one in my current boat is not). The one in my SV2100CC I had custom built by Smitties Marine in south Fla. was and it was awesome. Had you ridden in that boat Juan you would have ordered you one of those seats I assure you. Dodge! Come on now. Do they even make trucks? Mark me down for vanilla...

I had a leaning post on a previous boat.. (Cape Horn) and liked it for the most part after putting one of those impact reducing cushions on the floor below it... but I like being able to store stuff in the seat and having the option of sitting or standing while driving. I'll take the chocolate. ;D

.. but I like being able to store stuff in the seat and having the option of sitting or standing while driving. Yeah. I miss my under seat storage I had on my Smitties lean seat. Like I said, if you get a good one they are hard to beat. A bad built one is so-so. You can also use your S/S cooler seat as a lean seat if it is built like my old one so they both have roles. Like most all things, it boils down to personal preference. Sorry for hijacking your post chumleydoo.

I love my leaning post. I put a removable cooler (94qt) under my leaning post, and use it for my under seat DRY storage. It holds more than the old flip/flop seat. Best of all worlds. I can stand, lean, sit (cause I had it custom built), removable backrest and have plenty of storage under post w/ cooler. If i go out w/ one or two in boat, I use front livewell as beverage cooler. If I have more in the boat I have another 94qt that goes up from by deck that has tie downs.
Finally broke down and got a combo unit gps/finder. Lowrance Elite 5 DSI-Gold. Gonna try it in Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Gentlemen, if i may hijack this OLD thread, I am looking for a Leaning post. Simpleman and Chumleydoo, you say you liked your leaning post. I'm not very tall and have no torso whatsoever, and I hate how low the cooler seat is on my SV2100. Id like to "lean" while Im driving to see over my dash. Can you give me prices for yall's leaning posts and where you ordered them. Are they hard to install, do I have to drill alot of new holes in the hull floor and glass in the old ones. These are just a few questions i had before pulling the trigger on one. Any response or PM would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Got mine thru website from Miami - Welds of Art. No longer in business, he worked for an alum contractor. $700 It was custom made for me and boat. Just went to bunches of websites and looked at all designs, and decided what I wanted.
