Well I've been having a problem with my shoulder and really hurt it getting the boat cover off a couple of weeks ago. went to the doc and after an MRI scan it's not good news, I've torn my rotator cuff, torn my bicep, there's a bone spur that needs to be shaved off and while there they're gonna remove some arthritis. This is gonna suck big time.

Really sorry to hear that Phil. Spring and summer isn't a good time to break down. Welcome to my world. I've got a knee recovering from surgery and an MRI on my back scheduled for the 15th and I'm not expecting good news. I need to mow the pastures, plow, till and plant the garden and most of all....go fishing and I can't do any of it! Growing old sucks but it beats the alternative.

Just had that exact surgery January 28. Had a massive tear in cuff “repaired” , bone Spurs and biceps tendon released. It’s not a fun recovery, hope it goes well for you.

8 weeks with sling. Still slept in it some. If you move wrong way when you’re asleep it will hurt so I wore a little longer at night. Actually went bass fishing yesterday , paid for last night and today. I’m not good following Drs direction. I just use my own discretion on how far to move it. It was torn up for 6 years so I learned how not to lift it and how to work with it during that time. Honestly, pulling your pants up and putting socks on will drive you nuts for while.

Have to catch the first two toes and work it from there. Lol. Word of advice for after surgery: 1. If you have a nerve block in your neck DO NOT lay flat on your back. It will paralyze your vocal cord and you won’t be able to stop water from going down your windpipe. It works with gravity so make sure you’re sitting up. Excruciating when you take a drink of water and you can’t cough it up. Thought I was drowning.
2. Start taking pain pills the second day (nerve block comes out 3rd day). I don’t take pain pills and wanted to cut my arm off the night after we took it out. That pain only lasted a 12 hours or so. If you can take pain pills , I suggest to get started early. 😳
3. Ice , Ice and more ice. Hope this helps a bit.

That helps a lot thanks, I'm expecting the pain, been there with ankle surgery. I'll bear that in mind with the nerve block .

Sounds like a lot of pain. When are you going under the knife? I can't take most pain pills either. The side effects are too bad on me so they prescribed Ketorolac this time for my back pain. 3 days in and it's helping with no side effects. Good luck

I had a right rotator cuff tear, but it was minor enough that the doc sent me to physical therapy for 6 weeks. It hurt like hell every day. I finally decided to do the surgery and quit the PT and the exercises they had me doing. About 3 weeks later it didn't hurt nearly as bad and I cancelled the surgery. I avoid doing anything crazy and it seems to work. luckily I cast left handed. I have talked to many who had the surgery, and it is every bit of 6 weeks. Good luck!
