That's good news! Two plugs going bad at the same time is unusual but I guess it happens... Hopefully it was caused by something minor and it won't happen again. I'm sure I've caught hundreds of snot cats and I've heard others say they were good eating but I've never had enough nerve to clean and try one.. I'm not a big fan of reds so I can believe a sailcat could be better eating than a red but I'll have to work up the nerve and try one before I can agree they're better than trout.

Your right , the mngr. at the marina has never seen 2 plugs go out at the same time either. Actually read on the Big Bend fishing board years ago that the old timers love sailcat. Figured we would give it a try (we caught a lot ). Never turned back , damn things are white , firm and flaky meat. Excellent for frying. Cooked some up and took it to my brothers in Crawfordville, Told him they were trout , He loved it , then I told him it was Sailcat. He still won’t eat them but loved it when he didn’t know. Lol. Wash as much slime as you can off then fillet , skin , cut the blood and bloodline out. Keep as much slime off of filet. Delicious.

Yeah, I saw the same on Big Bend a while back and said I'd try them but still haven't. Do you skin em like a freshwater cat before you fillet them or fillet then skin?

I filet it then skin it. Rinse it good , put in a salt water bath until next day. I’m usually to tired to fry fish the same night. I put all my saltwater fish in a salt water bath with ice. Thing is I can’t stand fishy tasting fish. So , flounder , rock bass , sail cat , and fresh grouper are about the only saltwater fish I eat. It has to be white and flaky for me to eat. Can’t catch a sheepshead for shit so I don’t know how they taste. 🙄

Sailcat is good. Just doesn’t yield very well. Takes a big fish to get some decent filets.

Doesn't matter. Now that I've worked up enough courage to try one, I'll probably never catch another one.
