Looking for nice rental on the water with dock or pier to take family with SV1900. Barrier islands to explore, clean water and good fishing both inshore and nearshore open water. I am in Tulsa Oklahoma but don’t mind traveling a few days to get there.
Any suggestions?
3 kids and me/wife so really could be small or as big as three bedroom. Unfortunately, all the rental sites need better search engines for boaters.

I agree. If you've never been to the Florida Keys, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Great fishing and diving and tons of little islands you can check out. I grew up and went to school there and until a few years ago, would rent a house on Summerland Key for a couple weeks each year. Depending on the time of year, rentals are usually abundant since a lot of people who own homes return north. I'd avoid Marathon and Key Weird (West) and try to find a rental either in Islamorada or south of Marathon. If you decide on the Keys, I might be able to hook you up with a 3 br 2 bath on Summerland Key on a canal at $900 a week.

Thanks Juan. Back in the 2001-2004 I was on a APBA Offshore racing team for Sunsation power boats. I have been to Key West for World Championships several times and did'nt care for the place. Traffic on scooters is not my idea of a good time. Anyhow, I never stopped at any of the other Keys and have always regretted that. It was all business on those trips. Pretty fun getting lost pulling a 32' boat threw neighborhoods whose streets were built for golf carts or something. (sorry, to the lady with the flower bed on the corner...lol)
I am interested in checking out the Summerland Key if you get get me a lead.
I wonder how my Garmin Blucharts will work down there in the keys?

Sorry for the late reply. It's been a few years since we've rented the house on Summerland and the owner now has a long term lease on it so it's no longer available. Sorry. You might check the VRBO site. They have rentals listed all over the Keys and some are actually affordable.

Thanks for the effort Juan. I have been looking and have been surprised how many reasonable houses with dockage are available. I guess I am used to the beach house scene in panhandle that is increasingly getting out of control on prices.
What kinds of fish do you target down there?

No problem. I hate that she leased it but I can understand not wanting the hassle of short term renting. I'll have to look for another place if we decided to go back again but I have a few old school buddies that still live there that might have suggestions. As for what fish to target, There's an endless selection. I guess it depends on what you want to catch. If you fish the ocean side Mutton, Mangrove, Yellowtail and Hog Snapper, - Grouper, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Blackfin Tuna are plentiful... For sport: Tarpon, Goliath Grouper, Barracuda, Sharks and Bonefish are everywhere. The Gulf side is shallow and calmer when the ocean side is rough and has lots of islands to explore. Kids can fish from shore and catch Snapper, Grunts. I towed my Sea Pro down one year (800 miles) but if I weren't familiar with the area, I think I'd get a rental rather than towing that distance. Captain Pip's at the Marathon end of the 7 mile bridge is a good place to rent a skiff.

We've stayed here a few times and been happy with it. It's quite at night, but plenty around for anything needed. www.kontiki-resort.com/
