Thanks to the Russian invasion, gas prices are unreal. They're nearing $4.00 a gallon here and expected to keep going up. I travel at least 80 miles (one way) to most of the ramps I fish and I usually fish 3 to four times a month. My truck gets 9 mpg when pulling the Sea Pro so I'm spending close to $100 every time the boat leaves the yard. Yesterday I fished a ramp 101 miles away from the house and caught only 5 fish. I figure those fish cost $18. each and I didn't bring any home. Haven't decided for sure yet, but I'm giving some serious thought to selling the Sea Pro and keeping the 16 footer. Damn Russians!

Yep, just put 65 gallons in mine, $345. Damn! That's better than $5. a gallon! I didn't even figure boat gas into my cost. Mine holds 54 gallons but I can get at least 3 or 4 trips before filling up. I need a new truck that gets more than 9 mpg or an electric boat or canoe. If I sell the Sea Pro I'd kick myself if gas prices dropped so for now, I'll stay inshore and use the skiff more and the Sea Pro can be a yard ornament.

I've always figured that it costs at least $100 to put my boat in the water and go fishing. Now it just got worse. Hopefully, this is a short-term problem. It may take a couple of years to come back to equilibrium, but it will get there. More sober energy policies will have to be adopted. Gas is too important to all Americans.
Get out your $50/pound sign and consider fishing to be akin to going to the casino. It's an entertainment expense, not a food value producer.

I filled up the strategic reserves (the 81 gallon seapro gas tank) two weeks ago. Ethanol free at $3.29/gal. It looks like things are going to turn back to Jimmy Carter gas lines soon.

I hate to say it, but gas was already 60% higher from the previous year before the russians did anything. I'm a Charlie Daniels fan as much as anyone, but I don't think ole green teeth's commie flag tacked up in his garage has anything to do with this.

And now we get E15 all year! I did a little homework and based on the BTU's/gallon, E15 will get 2% less fuel ecomomy than E10 and it will cost about 2% less. You get what you pay for..

I hadn't heard that. The next Elon Musk is going to be the guy who invents a working solar efficient battery that makes our dependency on dinosaur oil obsolete. I just hope I live long enough to see it.

I don't know that we'll ever be over oil. Even Elon needs copious amounts to build his electric cars.
I think this whole battery thing has its own set of really bad side-effects (environmental, economic and geopolitical) that nobody is brave enough to talk negatively about.
I'm hoping that somebody gets really serious about extracting hydrogen from water for combustible fuel. That would be renewable and hangover-free.
Oh, and if everyone would go out and plant 50 plants/trees in their yard there'd be a lot of carbon getting sucked up and oxygen produced.

Do cannabis plants count? [/quote] I think that will get you extra credit and, depending where you live, 10-15.

Plants make oxygen. Oxygen is a gas. Gas is expensive and what I'm bitching about. Can you tell I'm bored?

I hear you. I contemplating buying a 14' flat with a 25 hp on it that will run for a week on 6 gallons of fuel and/or rigging a sail on the Sea Pro.
