I haven't stopped fishing yet, but age is creeping up on me and I'm starting to wonder how much longer I'll be able to fish solo. Giving some thought lately on selling the Sea Pro and keeping the smaller skiff. Getting old sucks!

Giving some thought lately on selling the Sea Pro and keeping the smaller skiff. Getting old sucks! Juan, you need to put those thoughts out of your head and change your approach. My Fish Mentor is probably 75-77 years old. He doesn't like to go solo if he doesn't have to. So, he posts on local fishing forums and bookface, etc. that he's going and needs a first mate. First respondent gets the job. First mate helps with boat chores and gets lessons in seamanship and fish hunting from a man with decades of experience in both. The price of the trip is a handshake and a smile. You can work your pricing out for yourself. I'm just saying that you don't have to sell your baby and quit fishing. But, if you do sell that boat, I want first dibs.

Ha! I tried that approach once Crabs and once was enough. You wouldn't believe the weird-o's that replied! One even offered his wife. I've been afraid to extend an invitation to anyone cept old friends since then. I'm not selling or giving up yet, but I know the day is coming.

Interesting. I asked my mentor whether he ever encountered a guest who was particularly weird, seemingly dangerous or generally unstable. Certainly taking a complete stranger onto your boat and running 10-15 miles into the marsh could be risky. One could end up alligator food with one's boat stolen.
After taking literally dozens, maybe hundreds, of strangers out he said he never has felt uncomfortable. There were a few he didn't like and wouldn't answer their calls if they called again, but no dangerous weirdos.
Maybe you just have more weirdos over there. Maybe if somebody is going to get up at 2 a.m. to go to the 'End of the World' to go fishing, nefarious activities aren't on their minds.
Glad you're not giving up.
