Over the summer I noticed she was smoking more. Attributed it to using standard tcw3 vs full synthetic. Walmart’s in my area have had a hard time stocking marine oil this summer. Yesterday I was back to quicksilver synthetic and the smoke got way worse. Making an assumption that there is something wrong with mixing system. She’s parked until I can get it fixed. Anyone have similar experiences? Ideas to trouble shoot?

I'd think your assumption is on the right track, it sounds like it's over oiling which is way better then under oiling. Is there an excessive amount oil oil in the airbox?.

I ordered the VRO rebuild kit from MasterTech/maxrules site. Had a couple camping trips since the symptoms started and was finally able to get into it yesterday. Overall it was relatively easy. Worst part was dropping a couple screws and having to retrieve from under the hoses/engine. Yes I did discover oil in the air box and did my best to clean/drain. When I fired her back up she smoke for a while and I assumed it was just burning up excess oil in the lines. In the end I had no joy as i now I have no oil alarm!
The primer bulb from the oil tank... should that be stiff like gas primer? I’ve never touched that in 3 yrs so I’m not sure how it should feel. There is also a 90 that comes out of the oil tank that is capped off and I noticed the cap has dry rotted and fell off when I touched it. Perhaps a vacuum issue getting oil to the VRO? Other than that all I can think to do is tear it apart and start over. Any ideas?
