Just when the water was starting to clear up. On the bright side it might break up the red tide.

The eye is predicted to come through Panama City on Wednesday afternoon as a cat 2...hope this thing falls apart, but it looks like it is pretty well formed with lots of warm water ahead of it...Pray for the best prepare for the worst. Be safe all.

There's not much I can do to prepare but I'll be gassing up the generator today and keeping my fingers crossed.

GREAT.... just when i was trying to prepare for my last 2 fishing trips of the season. Guess i will have to delay my departure by a few days! But i definitely don't want to be out on the North Atlantic Ocean during the winter months scalloping!!!

Fishing ought to be pretty good on Tuesday. Yep, I think I'll go.. they're only predicting 19 to 21 footers. They have the current path of this thing hitting Panama City as possibly a Cat 3 on Wednesday around noon. I'm 70 miles north so hopefully it will weaken a bit before getting here. Everyone west of Florida, go outside and blow toward the east.

Just left my annual vacation in destin the 6th, glad I am not there but feel for all who are in michaels path . Annual month long rodeo shut down for a couple days. The arguably largest charter fleet in Fla moved out of the harbor and to other safer moorings. Hope he blows by quick Juan, batten down the hatches

P.S. forgot to say a thing or two about the red tide around destin. While I was there the stuff on the beaches mostly the respiratory effects were from patches of the tide from Panama city area broken off and carried by SE winds and a pretty big ground swell from same direction. A couple days on the beach a lot of people were coughing and commenting on something is wrong. While out on a couple of bottom fishing excursions in the 1900 we came across wide strips of dead fish mostly ruby lipped grunts and squirrel fish at about the 3 and 1/2 mile mark coming back in . The rest of my trip in waters nearby the red tide the fish bit and the mahi bite in that part of panhandle was on fire within 5 of shore, lots of blue water push and more Sargasso weed than I have ever seen that far north and that close to shore. Like Juan says mike may kick the red tide in the butt.

This storm is one of the worst we have had hit Florida in many years. It looks like it will make a direct hit to Panama City, with the eye predicted to come ashore around 1600 on Wednesday afternoon....if you're in the path of this hurricane, or near the coast get the hell out of there now. I feel for them folks in the path of this thing...Be safe all.

Getting close to a cat 4 now, stay safe you guys in that area. 5:00 a.m. and it's a CAT 4 and the weather channel is predicting it to become a CAT 5! I'm in the path of the eye but 70 miles north of the coast so I'm sticking it out here and hoping the trees stay grounded. The eye is still 125 miles offshore but outer bands are here already but so far it's just heavy rain. Glad you got out in time troutslayer. You should have hollered while you were down this way. The trout bite has been good in Panama City up until now.

Wow, it hit land just 2 mph shy of a cat 5. Juan's going to lose power. Heck, I might lose power. Work shut down at 3 today. Tornadoes starting to fire up as well.

I've been running on the generator for hours and considering the damage, I'd guess it will be days before we get power again. I've been through some serious hurricanes, but this one is the worst. No damage so far to the house that I can tell but we've had almost 6 " of rain and there are huge 100+ year old trees down everywhere. My yard and pastures look nothing like they did two hours ago, the roof on the green house is gone and two huge pines just fell on my neighbor's house. we've still got another 30 - 45 minutes inside the eye wall.. wish me luck

Juan, that sucks. It’s just beginning for you. I’m hoping my Mom’s house in Destin is okay and I’m having Katrina flashbacks. Everybody keep their heads down and be safe not heroic.
